Catalase Reagent

Catalase Reagent

For the in vitro detection of catalase activity

Catalase reagent is use to distinguish between catalase negative bacteria such as Streptococci and Enterococci, for example, Streptococcus pyogenes will give you a negative result and Staphylococcus aureus will give a positive result.

The bacterial enzyme catalase causes the breakdown of hydrogen peroxide to water and oxygen.

Abtek Biologicals Catalase reagent is supplied in 2ml dropper bottles of 3% hydrogen peroxide.

The test is simple. Place a suspect colony onto a slide and add a drop of the solution. Appearance of bubbles indicates a positive test.
